A good technology can feel like magic when it improves your business.
Not long ago I was invited to a discussion with one of our customers on how the “workplace” will evolve in their branch offices. We were reviewing the current way of working, how they see change for the future and what tangible outcomes there will be for them. We were in our Briefing Center where we had short time slots to demonstrate our OpenTouch technology and discuss how it could be applicable to them. Demonstrations and technology come in two categories: visible or invisible. Both can make a difference.
Visible technology that awes
Everyone has at least once experienced the moment when technology looks so amazing that you almost believe it’s magic. We showed our customers how we can shift calls from a deskphone to a smartphone and then to a huddle room phone when there’s a need for more privacy. I’ve personally used this mobility feature , it’s very handy in the open plan offices I’m working in. So when our customers saw it for the first time, working on the same model of desk phones that they have in their branch offices, they were truly amazed by it… because it really looked magical! After explaining what it does, we moved on to a fruitful discussion on how it would solve one of their front office issues.
Invisible technology that just works
There also are some technology evolutions that won’t seem like magic to anybody at a first glance but they can TRULY change the way organizations work. An important technology evolution in the latest ALE OpenTouch Suite 2 2 1 that we’ve launched recently is based on WebRTC. This IP communications standard aims at having real-time communication support natively in web browsers.
So you may wonder what difference does it make? It’s just a “Use my computer” radio box button in the web interface of the OpenTouch Conversation conference application - so why should it be impressive? Because, it allows any guest in B2B communications to be part of a real-time conference session by just using PC or a tablet without having to install a plug-in or add-in… which typical local IT policies would have banned anyway.
Secure technology that makes a difference
An organization can now invite guests to join from the phone of their choice… or from a WebRTC browser such as Chrome or Firefox. The WebRTC streams securely go through the corporate firewalls and are terminated by the OpenTouch Session Border Controllers. Therefore, a disruptive technology that aims at changing the game in Internet-based real-time sessions can sometimes be brought to you by (pause for dramatic effect)… a small radio button.
Visible or invisible technology is a great asset for the new workplace and for secure business interactions beyond the corporate firewalls. So what about the customers we met the other day in our Briefing Center? A trial in their network is planned in the coming weeks.
