Schools that focus on campus safety use tools like mass notification systems to provide peace of mind to worried parents
Dear Julie,
I can’t tell you how proud your Mom and I are. After dropping you off for your orientation and getting to spend more time on campus, I think that you made the best school choice. Some of the other schools that we toured last year seemed great for lectures but were really lacking in tech…that one school was still totally reliant on paper handouts. They really felt old school. These days, you really need both critical thinking and technology to get ahead.
The size of your campus is CRAZY. It’s like a small city with all the buildings, parking garages, courtyards, and dorms. Your Mom and I got lost just going from your dorm to the bookstore, so hopefully you don’t get lost getting around your first day of classes. Maybe there’s an app for that?
Being on the other side of the country and knowing that we can’t get to you right away, I have to say that the mass notification that you have on campus makes me sleep easier. It’s great that you can communicate with us when you want, but I’m more thankful that you’ll be able to contact us when NEEDED. I was impressed when the school showed us that they can communicate on campus and update students and faculty in real-time. That’s the best way to keep everyone safe. I was also impressed that they are aware that communicating with emergency crews, parents, and neighbors off site is just as important. Knowing that your school can communicate with both you and us if something happens on campus really lowers my stress level. I don’t think that some of the other schools we looked at had that kind of sophisticated system or strategy in place if something were to go wrong.
Your roommate seems nice and the dorm food wasn’t half bad, so hopefully you are all set for the school year. I slipped you some extra cash in your luggage in case of an emergency…don’t tell Mom. Give us a call once in a while and have fun. Learn lots.
Love, Dad
