New partnership provides RainbowTM as tool to support student education and research, as well as employment opportunities
Bengaluru (India), June 17, 2019 - Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE), provider of enterprise communications solutions and services, has signed a 3-year memorandum of understanding with the National Institute of Technology Puducherry (NITPY), the autonomous public engineering institute located in India’s union territory of Puducherry. As partner to NITPY, ALE will provide the institute with its Cloud-based UCaaS Rainbow platform and APIs, as well as internship and employment opportunities for engineering students. ALE and NITPY will also engage in joint research projects in areas of mutual interest.
The implementation of Rainbow will enable NITPY to take communications to a new level by providing a high-performance platform to connect with partners, other educational institutions, and other stakeholders. Rainbow will also simplify collaboration between faculty and students in an academically rigorous environment where teamwork can improve learning and fuel research. In addition, the ALE Rainbow APIs will help drive entrepreneurship by providing students with the chance to develop their own application within the Rainbow developer sandbox platform. Dr. Narendran Rajagopalan, Assistant Professor, Department of computer science and engineering, will be the principle investigator for the research and development projects using the platform.
"NITPY is focused on research and providing our students with the hands-on experience they need to become India’s next generation of top tier engineers. With Rainbow APIs they can experiment, develop useful applications, and learn valuable lessons along the way,” says Dr. K. Sankaranarayanasamy, Director, NITPY, “Furthermore the collaborative features in Rainbow will help us work more effectively with our students."
According to Prasath L Rao, Country and Region Head - India & South Asia for Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, "ALE is excited to work with NITPY and to support their promising young engineers. Our Rainbow platform is an excellent solution for academic institutions looking to become “Smart” universities. Together, we can help take India’s NIT schools into the future."
