Bürgenstock Resort rolls out state-of-the-art network to bring complete connectivity to 20 buildings.
The new Bürgenstock Resort, located high above Lake Lucerne, has deployed a state-of-the-art converged voice and data network based on Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise technology. The new converged network connects 20 buildings, providing voice and data communication via LAN and WLAN that connects employees, guests and the 50 different administrative and service systems used across the resort. These include building automation systems, conference technology, audio and video entertainment, guest Internet access, patient call and medical systems, front-desk systems and video surveillance.
The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne opened its doors in September 2017. It comprises four hotels in the three to five stars superior categories with 383 rooms and suites, 67 residence suites, a 10,000 sqm Alpine Spa, a health & medical center, 8 restaurants and 4 bars, spacious conference rooms, a shopping arcade and a broad range of sports and leisure facilities. The Bürgenstock Selection portfolio consists of the Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne, the Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & THE SPA Bern (99 rooms) and the Royal Savoy Hotel & Spa Lausanne (196 rooms).
The new network solution was planned and installed by long-term ALE business partner Bouygues E&S InTec Schweiz AG, with network resilience as a core component for the resort’s 24/7 operations, as the hotel systems, building automation technology, energy supply and connectivity must be available around the clock. The larger hotels were equipped with redundant building cores, and a central redundant core switch ensures the performance of the entire network and a data transfer rate of 20 Gbit/s.
Bürgenstock uses Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch® 6900 LAN and data center switches and Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 6450 LAN switches that support highly available, secure and eco-friendly campus networks running many devices. A total of 550 WLAN access points and the Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista® 2500 network management system (NMS) ensure that guests can access the Internet via the same WLAN login in all the buildings, and that during large conferences, several hundred persons can use the WLAN simultaneously without any problem.
Bruno H. Schöpfer, Managing Director, Katara Hospitality Switzerland AG
“The satisfaction of our guests is our greatest asset. Accordingly, we have high demands on the user-friendliness of the network. Guests want to upload their snapshots to Instagram while watching Netflix. Congress participants must be able to connect quickly with their various devices. Thanks to the implemented network, this is a matter of course.”
Almir Kalender, Group IT Director, Katara Hospitality Switzerland AG
“We built the complete infrastructure from scratch, including fibre optic cabling and our own data center. The fact that we use the water of Lake Lucerne for heating, cooling and CO2-neutral energy generation and that we operate our own train, increases the complexity of the network – and the requirements for its reliability. Thanks to the infrastructure from Bouygues E&S InTec Schweiz AG, we can efficiently manage these complex systems.”
Damian Keller, Head of IT, ICT Services, Bouygues E&S InTec Schweiz AG
“The planning for the Bürgerstock Resort network started in 2013. Despite the long project duration of five years, we never had to change the switch models, because the OmniSwitch 6900 and OmniSwitch 6450 product families are still state of the art. This particular advantage of the ALE components helped us set up a stable infrastructure that has worked very reliably ever since we started this project.”
Bruno Kolmann, Channel Sales Manager, ALE Switzerland GmbH
“Our network solutions combine ALE's many years of experience with innovative technology and robust product design. As a result, they are ideally suited to meet the complex requirements of the Bürgenstock Resort, and we are delighted to see our solutions contribute to the success of this wonderful new resort.”
