ALE installs high-performance network on the campus of the University of Santiago de Compostela in Madrid as part of digital transformation
Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) and its partner Dimension Data have installed a high-performance network infrastructure on the campus of the University of Santiago de Compostela to continue its digital transformation
The University of Santiago de Compostela has selected Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise to renew the network infrastructure connecting its students, teachers, researchers and administrators across all campuses. The Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise solution provides the University with an 80 GB network, for the highest performance.
As technology becomes a major influence in how Universities operate and attract students and staff, University of Santiago de Compostela recognized the need to renew its network to take on the challenges of the digital transformation.
The solution implemented in the Santiago (Vida, Histórico and Norte) and Lugo campuses included advanced access switches with layer 7, aggregation and core capabilities, in the University's data center.
An infrastructure to make everything connect
The network update comprised of central Campus nodes and building aggregation nodes, renovation of access switches in the data center and part of the access switches in racks - on floors and in the computer rooms, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, in coordination with Dimension Data, implemented a flexible service-oriented network - where the existing architecture is replicated making migration simple - and with SPB technology to support new services between the campuses. It also included virtual private networks VxLAN at L3 level.
The network now contains Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise switches from the Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch® family (9900, 6900, 6860E and 6350), delivering flexibility to optimally meet the demanding technological challenge posed by the project. The network management is done through Alcatel-Lucent OmniVista® 2500.
Antonio Pérez Casas, head of networks at the University of Santiago, said "This network provides the university with greater capabilities, a high level of redundancy, flexibility, robustness and security, both for present and future technological challenges."
César Martín, Commercial Responsible for Dimesion Data in North of Spain, considers that, "The contribution of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise to this project has been fundamental to meet the demanding requirements of a very powerful and necessary network to tackle the challenges of the digital transformation of the University of Santiago. "
Similarly, Miguel Arnaiz, channel director of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise in Spain, adds, "I am very proud that the University of Santiago has relied on our network technology, integrated by Dimension Data, to connect its students, teachers, researchers and administrative staff. Our products will deliver a user experience according to the generative effect of social development and wealth of the University in these times of digital transformation".
