Leading research institute ZEW Mannheim moves to an advanced All-IP communications platform with Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise.

ZEW Mannheim, a leading European economic research institute, today announced that it has rolled out an advanced IP telephony and Unified Communications solution based on Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise technology. ZEW employees now enjoy advanced Unified Communications functionality and Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) through the OpenTouch Suite, allowing researchers to make one-click calls via their PC. The ALE technology was deployed by long-standing business partner, COM plan + service GmbH.

ZEW is now All-IP ready and benefits from a full range of IP-based communications features. Over 260 modern IP deskphones featuring high-quality audio and additional user features have been integrated into an Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX® Enterprise telephony environment. Additionally, ZEW plans to integrate employee mobile phones into the communications solution to further boost mobility and collaboration among employees.

The new deployment is based on the highly flexible OmniPCX Enterprise Communication Server, which has enabled ZEW to adopt a hybrid approach and supports analog, digital and IP communications to ensure a smooth transition to All-IP with minimal disruption. The OmniPCX Enterprise enables legacy analog fax machines to be retained for specialist use, while the full communication solution is secured and future proofed through regular, easy to roll out software updates.
