Founded in 1933, Newman University is a small private coeducational Catholic university located in Wichita, Kansas.

The university offers both undergraduate and master’s level programs, specializing in medicine and nursing.

The university accommodates some 3595 undergraduate and graduate students.
A dedicated sales engineer provides them regular support, allowing the university to stay up-to-date and deploy robust flexible solutions that meet their needs.

The ongoing support we receive from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise before and after sale is very important to us. Since the recent infrastructure upgrade, our staff and students complain more about parking spaces than the Wi-Fi. That’s a very good sign, in our book!

Challenges

Students at Newman University were dissatisfied with the quality of wireless connectivity, particularly in dormitory rooms and the library.
Classrooms also needed wireless, starting with the nursing department, where students do all their testing online.
The existing chassis-based infrastructure was end of life, with no potential for growth, and the wireless controller was no longer meeting their needs.
They needed more capacity and throughput from the wireless network to cope with the growth in devices.
Meanwhile, the phone system was also increasingly difficult to manage and costly due to a monthly lease on the hardware.
