More information about our cookies

Ad technologies

Cookies and other ad technology, such as beacons, pixels, and tags, help us serve relevant ads to you more effectively. They also help us provide aggregated auditing, research, and reporting for advertisers that help us understand and improve our service and knowledge of when content has been shown to you.

Note: Because your web browser may request advertisements and beacons directly from third party ad network servers, these networks can view, edit, or set third-party cookies, just as if you had requested a web page from their site. Ads served by LinkedIn may also set third-party cookies.

Google Analytics: Collects statistical information about how you use the site so that we can improve the site.

Google Analytics (GA) does not collect specific user information itself. We do use Google Tag Manager to install GA, and tracking pixels to support reporting and re-marketing via agencies. Our agencies use Adwords, Doubleclick, Facebook, LinkedIn, and possibly some other tracking pixels for remarketing.

If you are logged in on,, the Pulse app or another Service that references this Cookie Policy or browsing a third-party partner site of LinkedIn and one of our cookies on your device identifies you, your usage (such as your browsing behaviour) and log data (such as your IP address), will be associated by us with your account as noted in Section 1.3 of our Privacy Policy. We also use aggregate data from third parties and data from your profile and LinkedIn activity.

If you are a LinkedIn member but logged out of your account on a browser, LinkedIn may continue to log your interaction with our services on that browser for up to 30 days to generate usage analytics for our services, which analytics we may share in aggregate form with our advertising customers.

Unless you clear these cookies from your browser, we may use this information to:

  • provide more relevant, interest-based advertising
  • provide aggregate reports of ads activity to advertisers and websites hosting the ads
  • help website and app owners understand how visitors engage with their sites or apps
  • detect and defend against fraud and other risks to protect users and partners
  • improve our products

We do not provide any personal information that we collect to advertisers unless you have given us permission to do so. You can opt-out of interest-based advertising from our customers, as well as our customers' advertising on LinkedIn based on data collected through third party sites, by adjusting your settings. Please note that opting out will not remove advertising from the pages you visit. It will mean that the ads you see may not be matched to your interests. If you are not a LinkedIn member, learn more about cookies and how to opt out. Click here to learn more about the self-regulatory principles we adhere to.

Cookies can be used to recognize you when you visit LinkedIn, remember your preferences, and give you a personalized experience that's in line with your settings. Cookies also make your interactions with LinkedIn faster and more secure. Additionally, cookies allow us to bring you advertising both on and off the LinkedIn sites, and deliver customized features to you through LinkedIn plugins such as our "Share" button.

The cookie allows the website to identify you as a unique but anonymous individual under a random identifier. LinkedIn use this identifier to remember you, and present you with more relevant content based on your behaviours and interests

Consumer can be grouped into segments
Third parties can also place cookies and group them into marketing segments of similar behaviours or interests

Consumers may be re targeted with ads
LinkedIn can use data to recognize and market to you when you’re no longer on their site using a digital tactic called re-targeting.

The Oracle Eloqua asynchronous tracking scripts allow ALE to track visits to our ALE websites, seamlessly without affecting the page load time for ALE visitors.

Visitors are remembered based on a unique cookie value stored in their browser. When you visit a website with the Oracle Eloqua asynchronous tracking scripts deployed, cookies are placed in your browser.

These tracking scripts help identify you as a website visitor according to your specific browser and computer combination if you return to this domain. Oracle Eloqua supports two types of cookie-based tracking: third-party and first-party.

The difference between third-party cookies and first-party cookies lies in the owner of the cookie. For example, if you visited, and you saw a cookie for on your browser, this is a third-party cookie because the cookie does not belong to the domain.

First-party cookies are less problematic to use as they are blocked less often. It is difficult to browse the internet without accepting first-party cookies as these cookies identify you as a returning user to the site and help personalize your browsing experience. This is useful for any website that requires you to login, remember a password and so on. As many anti-spyware applications and privacy settings do not target first-party cookies, implementing tracking based on first-party cookies on your website may allow you to track more visitors successfully.

The cookie enables ALE to gather digital body language of the visitor and store it for use with our Eloqua lead score models. The information the cookie collects is stored in Eloqua with the GUID.

To better explain, Eloqua uses cookies to track a user’s online activity, or digital body language. Every time a user visits your site, clicks a link in your email, or fills out one of your forms, Eloqua saves that activity data in a cookie that is linked to the user’s browser. The cookie is used to create a visitor profile in Eloqua. If the user fills out a form and provides their email address, that email address is included in the cookie. Eloqua can then use the email address in the cookie to associate the visitor profile with a contact record.

Eloqua cookies are valid for up to two years, or unless the user clears their cookies.

Eloqua uses email address as the unique identifier in the system. It is only after a visitor has provided their email address, does the information gathered from their web visits become linked with the email address.

Eloqua tracking scripts do not collect personal information but links the visitor history with the email address once it has been submitted to Eloqua.

Email addresses are entered into Eloqua by way of:

  • Form submission:  the visitor has submitted an Eloqua form (either a campaign, event registration or a web form) and has provided their information.  All ALE forms include a check box to opt-in.  This check box does not pre-populate.  ALE gathers five specific fields on the form:
    • Email Address
    • First Name
    • Last Name
    • Company
    • Country
  • List purchase:  contact information that is purchased and uploaded into either or Eloqua directly
  • Business card data:  entered in and synced to Eloqua
  • sync:  Data entered in will sync to Eloqua

We use Hotjar in order to better understand our users’ needs and to optimize this service and experience. Hotjar is a technology service that helps us better understand our users’ experience (for example: how much time they spend on which pages, which links they choose to click, what users do and don’t like, etc.) and this enables us to build and maintain our service with user feedback. Hotjar uses cookies and other technologies to collect data on our users’ behaviour and their devices (device’s IP address captured and stored only in anonymized form), device screen size, device type (unique device identifiers), browser information, geographic location (country only), preferred language used to display our website). Hotjar stores this information in a pseudonymized user profile. Neither Hotjar nor Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise will ever use this information to identify individual users or to match it with further data on an individual user. For further details, please see Hotjar’s privacy policy by clicking on this link.

How can you control cookies?

  • Cookies settings: lists all the categories above with basic explanations of cookie types. The cookies settings enable you to personalize the cookies you are accepting.

In case you wish to edit your cookies settings once you have accepted or declined, the website’s footer provides access to the cookie’s settings at any time.
