Founded in 1623, Pontificia Universidad Javeriana is one of the oldest universities in Latin America. With its main campus in Bogotá serving around 25,000 students and a secondary campus in Cali, the university is part of a global network of 31 Jesuit universities in Latin America and 167 higher education institutions worldwide. Renowned for its academic excellence, Universidad Javeriana aims to stay at the forefront of education by providing robust and innovative IT infrastructure to its community.

Challenges
As a modern educational institution, Universidad Javeriana faced several IT challenges.
BYOD environment: With thousands of students and staff bringing their own laptops, tablets, and smartphones, the network had to support high-density device connectivity without compromising performance or security.
High bandwidth demands: The increasing reliance on streaming, e-learning platforms, and cloud-based tools created a need for scalable, highspeed connectivity access to handle peak usage.
Real-time monitoring: Administrators required real-time visibility into network health and tools to detect and address disruptions quickly.
Diverse user needs: Students needed uninterrupted access to learning systems and digital resources, while faculty relied on reliable networks for teaching, research, and administrative tasks.
Cybersecurity threats: Safeguarding sensitive academic and personal data from growing cyber threats was a top priority.
Scalability: As a leading university, Universidad Javeriana needed a network infrastructure capable of evolving to meet future demands, including support for hybrid learning models and emerging.
Action
The collaboration began with the implementation of LAN Core network and has since expanded to include LAN Access and WLAN solutions, utilizing ALE’s innovative products and technologies.
More recently, Javeriana University started using OmniVista Network Advisor, ALE intelligent and autonomous network companion. It provides AI-driven guidance and remediation for Alcatel-Lucent’s OmniSwitch, OmniAccess Stellar Access Points and any other network equipment vendor. It helps to ensure 24x7 monitoring by identifying any threats to the network, alerting IT teams of the events, issues or anomalies, and proposing a solution to remediate them. Moreover, you can command OmniVista Network Advisor to repeat the same fix if similar issues occur again in the network to automate the fixes.
