Berlin Airport selects ALE network infrastructure solutions

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise emerged as the European vendor with the most cost-effective and sustainable offer.
Paris, France, 11 February 2025 - Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, a leading provider of secure networking and communication solutions enabling organizations and industries to accelerate their operational efficiencies and competitiveness, is providing the technology to renew the mission-critical multi-service network infrastructure at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport. With this major order, the operator has once again chosen the European supplier, which will deliver 1,000 switches by the end of 2025 to meet the high security requirements of the future.
Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport (BER), the third largest airport in Germany after Frankfurt and Munich, and among the most modern ones, needs to be equipped with the latest IT infrastructure.
Following a public tender ALE was selected to provide an upgrade to the equipment installed before the BER opening. The best price/performance ratio, sustainability and longevity, and the new security features of the devices were the main criteria of choice, reinforced, by the trust-based relationship between the two partners. Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise was particularly competitive by offering a pricing model which implied no additional costs for using the technology, which significantly reduces the total cost of ownership (TCO).
Networking for the future
The Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch® 6860N stackable LAN switches are designed for the most demanding converged networks. The compact, high-density Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 10 GbE platforms offer high performance and reliability, as well as comprehensive security features such as point-to-point encryption and application detection. They are interoperable with all existing systems and prepared for future network technologies. This will take the airport to a new level of security. The delivery of the equipment has already begun with installation and commissioning expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
