Rainbow by Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise upgrades its user interface to offer greater flexibility and optimisation
Paris, France, 28 February 2022: Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, a leading provider of communications, cloud and networking solutions tailored to customers’ industries, has upgraded its Rainbow Hybrid solution with a new conferencing and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) User Interface (UI).
The update, which applies to both Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise’s hybrid and private cloud offers, delivers an improved user experience (UX), as well as greater flexibility and optimisation thanks to its streamlined layout.
The interface features new and intuitive status icons which default to dark or light mode depending on whether they are in use. The grid layout has also been enhanced with active speaker mode and simultaneous P2P screen sharing.
Optimisation is attained with the introduction of a hide/show feature for the chat panel, and a simultaneous view of both the live conference and chat windows.

In addition to an overall improvement in UX, new features have been introduced including easier cycling between speakers, simplified switching to full-screen mode, and background blurring. The upgrade will also notify a user if they are speaking but their microphone is turned off.
As well as the flexibility the new UI provides, with Rainbow’s CPaaS open-source architecture, users have the freedom to connect with other systems that provide an API connection. It enables them to develop and deploy unique applications, helping developers to get the most out of their Rainbow integration.
As a global Europe-based Unified Communications (UC) vendor, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise is not subject to the Patriot or Cloud Acts and therefore Rainbow continues to provide users with complete security and data sovereignty.
The launch enhances Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise’s communications solutions portfolio and is part of its Digital Age Communications (DAC) strategy which centres on three pillars:
- The digital workplace: Continually improving the user experience by simplifying the Rainbow UI; enabling enterprises to build their digital workplaces, encouraging user adoption and supporting employees to work from anywhere (at the office, at home, or remotely).
- Connecting everything: Greater integration of people, objects and applications enabled through Rainbow’s CPaaS and open source environment.
- Any cloud: Supporting hybrid telephony as well as ensuring security and data sovereignty with the flexibility to connect to on-premises or cloud PBXs via local data hosting. In addition, Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise supports customers to migrate at their own pace to the cloud with different business models, including licenses, subscriptions, or outcome-based models.
